Initial plans were to be performing, but she simply outgrew her dance partners. In an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. After I reached the point of outgrowing male dance partners, I stopped. The majority of dancers who have been ex-dancers now turn into acting. In Brugel's situation, it was a suggestion by one of her drama teachers at the high school who pushed her towards the right path. It was her teacher who advised her to audition in the role of Anne in the school's annual production. She auditioned to play the lead in Anne of Green Gables. This led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with A Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. For the last two decades her career has seen her appear in over 60 movies and TV productions. The role she was most famous for was as Rita (shown beneath) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian in the Season 1 actors of the series and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
